Character: God’s Wardrobe
Finding the right outfit always proves a challenge for most women. Regardless of size, shape or confidence level, we want to make a good first impression. Each search begins with questions such as:
Is this event casual or dressy? Daytime or nighttime? Is the weather warm or chilly? Answering each question, helps us narrow our options until we hone in on the perfect ensemble.
Colossians 3:12 says, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”
Each morning, God has chosen our spiritual clothes. He has laid out the perfect blend to present a great impression time after time. But notice that the writer says, “compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness AND patience.” Each is important and necessary, not an optional “belt” or “purse” to be discarded if decided.
Once we’ve clothed ourselves with God’s wardrobe, we’ve placed our confidence in Him that He knows the questions ahead for the day:
Will this day be smooth or patience-building? Will this meeting require extra kindness? Is the person I’m going to run into in need of some gentleness?
So tomorrow when you check your closet, post a list to the side as a reminder to put on your spiritual wardrobe as well. You’ll be lookin’ mighty fine.
