the “dog days of summer”...

While listening to the radio the other day, the announcer said that we were entering the “dog days of summer.” I thought, “What are ‘dog days’ and how do we know we are in them?”

I thought about Kathy’s chihuahua, Yoli, who seems to have mastered the concept of “dog days.” She wakes up, eats, plays outside, lays in the sun, stretches, gets a cold drink, frolics in the grass and lays back down.

If that is what “dog days of summer” means, sign me up…well, minus the grass frolicking.

Summer provides a great time for friendz to gather in the park, have a picnic, play goofy games and lay in the sun. Don’t wait for an invitation or a special event! Call up a few friendz today, set up a time and just do it. You’ll be enjoying the “dog days of summer” in no time and making some great memories—no bones about it!

 Christmas in July

Can you believe it’s time to start planning your events for Christmas?  Consider the unit, “Wrapping Up Christmas.” The Leader Kit has all you need to start planning for a memorable holiday event.

session 4—the town hall meeting

How do leaderz become more effective in their leadership abilities? By listening to those they lead.
A fun way to spark ideas and open discussion is to announce a “Town Hall Meeting.” Invite each person to bring a favorite dish, along with some ideas for improving your friendzy group.
Once everyone’s arrived and eaten, ask some of the following questions and then, listen. Have someone take notes or record the meeting so that you’ll be able to recall the highlights at a future leaderz gathering.
  1. Why do you attend Creative Friendzy?
  2. What was the best thing you enjoyed during your first visit to Friendzy?
  3. What is something you would improve for future visitors?
  4. What is the most important time during a Creative Friendzy session?
  5. Would you feel good about inviting pre-Christian friendz to this group? Why or why not?

Asking for input is a great way to grow and improve. Of course, be ready for honest feedback, even if it stings a bit. If all the comments are “rosy,” beware. Creating an atmosphere where your leaders are comfortable being candid is essential. The momentary discomfort is well worth the long-term gains!

 workshop friendz

Pam and Kathy were “Cookin’ Up Creativity” in their Creative Friendzy class over the last few weeks.

Workshop guests from Lambert’s (home of the “throwed” rolls) and LaHacienda restaurants came and demonstrated some of their delectable food choices. Who do you have in your area that would love an opportunity to share their creativity?

  wedding bellz ring

Creative friendz joined Pam and Kathy to make Delanie’s wedding day a very special one. Using recipes from home, the friendzy catering team cooked up a storm and had a great time while doing it!
Delanie was matched up with her new husband, Jarad, by one of the Creative Friendzy class members. Love bloomed and the rest is history! Congratulations to Delanie and Jarad!
