those easy summer dayz...
When I was a little girl I
used to love summer days. I would play outside for hours, eat lots of ice cream
and come inside in the evening only when my mother used my middle
name.
I think the part I enjoyed most was that nothing was
hurried. There weren’t any schedules to keep, places to go or demands to
fulfill. In those quiet times of summer, I found that my
creativity blossomed. For hours I would build, create, paint and
imagine. How can we recapture those same creative feelings
again? Well, I suppose we could jump up from our laundry pile or work desk and
all go running after the ice cream truck when it goes by…but probably a more
effective way is to “plan spontaneous creativity.” Allow yourself a
few hours a week to just “be.” Walk a trail and take a sketch pad. Lie on a
blanket, look up at the trees and compose a poem. Visit a craft festival to
spur new ideas and forms of creativity. Just like you plan to vaccuum, prepare
meals, or pick up dry cleaning, plan a few hours of “unplanned”
time. You see, most of us want to be creative. However,
creativity is at its best when we set aside time with the True Creator, Jesus,
and allow Him to refresh us with new ideas. Although the ice cream truck isn’t a
bad idea either.
Happy Imagining!

session 3—leaderz meeting,
make it... Working as a team is a wonderful thing!
Jesus knew that it was the most effective way to minister and grow. We want to
be like Jesus which means we must develop teams that minister effectively.
In April we found leaders. In May we created themes for leaders
meetings. This month, we want to focus on structuring the meeting to make it
effective.
Make it fun . Use a theme to create excitement and
importance (see session 2, May 2005 newsletter). Laugh a
lot.
Make it meaningful . Provide an outline for the evening and
stick to it. (Kathy laughs at me, but I even have minutes out to the side so
that everyone can see how much time we intend to spend on one particular
subject. No one likes meetings that go on
forever.)
Make it affirming . Reiterate the importance
of each leadership role. Name something specific that you see each leader doing
well. After affirming, gently mention ways to improve through concrete, specific
suggestions. (Give 3 compliments to a person for every 1
complaint.)
Think back to the last meeting you led or participated
in. Was it fun, meaningful, and
affirming? |
