A Weekly Friendzy

Start a Creative Friendzy as a weekly event in your Sunday school, adult Bible fellowship, home group or college dorm. How do
you do that? Creatively, of course!
Here’s what we do: Kathy and I (along with our fabulous Friendzy Leaderz) teach Creative Friendzy every week during
our church’s Sunday school hour. We decorate the tables with centerpieces reflecting the unit’s theme.
We try to make the “buffet” as creative as we can. For instance, we may announce that week one is all round
foods; week two is all square foods; week three is all triangles, etc. We vary it by using different colors, types
(fruity, baked, in a bag, etc.), favorite recipe day, and more.
We plan some time for friendz to chat, grab a snack and get settled. During this time we have the Creative friendzy theme song or some
other up-beat music playing. Some months we create a PowerPoint or iMovie with photos of ladies from the class, announcements, etc.
The photos with name captions are a great way to help everyone learn friendz’ names. You may not be a computer user, but I
assure you there are ladies in your class who have kids who are! Get them involved using their creative abilities for ministry.
We choose one of the friendz to begin with a Spark introducing new friendz to the group. Once we’ve gotten to visit with
each other, we move into a session from one of the themed units. During the lesson, we study the Bible, discuss the questions from
the Student book, take notes, laugh and sometimes cry. We are women, you know! We conclude the lesson with a time of prayer
and introspection. We always leave them with a thought that’s “packaged” to take home and think about all
week--No, not “packaged” for their hands to carry, but for their heart to carry.
Usually about this time, our friendz know that a Great Idea! is just around the corner. We have someone from the class
demonstrate a Great Idea! listed in the book or we invite a guest to join us. This has been an effective tool for inviting
unchurched friendz, family or neighbors to the class. You can say, “We’ve got a lady demonstrating flower arranging
in a class at church this week. I’d love for you to be my guest…”
After all this, the ladies leave refreshed and inspired.
We have observed several benefits of doing Creative Friendzy weekly:
-builds community
-creates a place for women of all ages and backgrounds to come together regularly
-keeps momentum and excitement
-causes women to remain focused on evangelism and encouragement
-provides opportunity for inviting unchurched friendz
